The day after Christmas
Finally tonight: the day after Christmas and why I hope your joy remains
as full as it was the day before.
This season that has been created from celebrating the birth of Christ
can be filled with ups and downs.
The adrenaline-fueled frenzy of power shopping can give way to the harrowing
horrors of trying to make holiday returns.
Pre-holiday excitement can turn into post-holiday doldrums, Christmas
cheer can easily slip into year-end blues and the reason for the season
can get lost in the shuffle.
But if you are indeed celebrating the birth of Christ, then your Christmas
spirit need not be suspended because the day comes and goes.
As you should celebrate your own life on every day of the year along
with a special recognition of your birthday, so the life of Christ can
be celebrated every single day along with a special recognition at Christmas.
When the shopping is finished, the return receipts are settled and our
focus is fixed on the coming New Year, we should remember that the source
of the joy on Christmas day is the same as on the day after: that the
Lord Jesus Christ was born.
