Love and Romance
Finally tonight: love and why Valentine's Day is a good time to remember that
romance is only the beginning.
It's wonderful to celebrate romance, to exchange cards and flowers, candy and
gifts. It's wonderful to express romance in just the right words or even better
with just the right silence. It's wonderful to live in romance, the looks, the
sighs, a heart that melts at the mere thought of another.
But romance is best when it blossoms into care and commitment, into sacrifice
and selflessness, into depth and dependability -- in essence, when it blossoms
into love.
While love can be felt, it's not a feeling, it's an action. Love is better as a
verb than a noun, and must be expressed in the "doing" before the "saying" has any
credibility.
The heights of romance can be wonderful to visit, but in the depths of love you
can spend a lifetime.
