Luck and Friday the 13th
Finally tonight: luck and why the only thing to fear
about it is falling into the trap of believing in it.
Superstition about luck is why a lot of people do a lot of crazy things. Taking
the long way around ladders, beating a path away from black cats, sending salt
flying over their shoulders and cautiously jumping cracks in the sidewalk are
among the craziest.
Some people fear Fridays and when Friday falls on the 13th, like today, they
believe even rising from bed is a very big risk.
Ironically, there's an even more ridiculous rumor that the fear of Friday the
13th is somehow rooted in Christian theology. It involves nonsense about 13 people
at the Last Supper and the Lord Jesus Christ being crucified on Friday being a
bad omen.
Let me assure you that the sacrifice of our Savior could never be considered
by any Bible believing Christian as the result of God's Son having a bad luck day.
The Lord chose the day; the day did not choose Him.
A day, that by the way, we call "Good Friday."
