A nation under God
Finally tonight: a nation under God and why we need to keep reminding ourselves
that we are.
The U. S. Supreme Court says it will decide whether school children can
recite the words "under God" when pledging their allegiance to our nation.
This is the nation where moviegoers find entertainment value in the rape
scenes featured in one of every eight Hollywood movies. This is the nation that
subjects its children to an average of ten thousand hours of televised violence
annually. This is the nation that squeezes an explicit sexual reference into
every five-minute segment of so-called "family hour" TV.
This is a nation that aborts its babies, abuses its children, neglects the
elderly and ignores its poor.
This is a nation of drug using, drunk driving, gender bending, corporate
raiding, profanity spewing and rabble rousing for the right to have more of
everything except responsibility.
This is not a nation that appears generally concerned or particularly aware
of being "under God."
But as long as we keep reminding ourselves that we are, there's a chance we
might go running to Him and to His Word to find out how a nation "under God" is
really supposed to be.
